Delete your Luminary AI account
We're sorry to see you go. You can request deletion of your Luminary AI account and its associated data right here — you do not need the Luminary mobile app installed, and you do not need a Google account.
How to request deletion
There are three ways to do it. All three delete the same data.
- 1On this page. Sign in above to confirm the account is yours, then choose Delete my account, type
DELETEto confirm, and the deletion runs immediately. - 2In the Luminary AI mobile app. Open Profile, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and choose Delete Account.
- 3By email. If you cannot sign in, email support@useluminary.ai from the address on the account. We verify the request before deleting anything.
We ask you to sign in — or to write from the account's own email address — so that nobody can delete someone else's account simply by knowing their email address.
Data that will be deleted
Deletion is permanent. Records are removed rather than hidden or flagged, across every system that holds them.
- Your account record and sign-in — Your Luminary account row — username, email address, account type, verification status, usage allowance and timestamps — together with the authentication account itself, held by our identity provider Clerk. Every way you currently sign in, including Google and Apple sign-in links, is removed with it.
- Chats, messages and AI responses — All of your chat sessions and every message in them: your prompts, the AI responses, citations, sources and generated outputs.
- Uploaded documents and generated files — The files you uploaded and any documents Luminary generated for you, deleted from our file storage along with their metadata records.
- Document text and search embeddings — The extracted text of your uploads, and the vector embeddings built from them so Luminary could answer questions about your documents.
- Highlights, saved topics and interests — Saved highlights, your news topics and interest selections, and the analysis records attached to them.
- Share links you created — Public share links for your chats and analyses stop resolving and are deleted, so anyone holding a link can no longer open your content.
- Devices and push notifications — Registered device tokens, so no further push notifications can be sent to any device signed in to your account.
- Cached copies — Server-side caches holding your profile, sessions, messages and analysis results.
- Waitlist entry — If you joined the Luminary waitlist with this email address, that entry is deleted too.
Data that may be retained
- One deletion audit record — A single record noting that this account requested deletion, when it was requested, when it completed, and how many records were removed. It exists so we can demonstrate that your deletion actually happened, resolve any dispute about it, and prevent abuse of the deletion process. Retained indefinitely unless a shorter period is later configured or required by law.
- Content other people already copied — If you shared a chat and another user forked it into their own account, or a recipient exported, downloaded or screenshotted shared content, those copies belong to that person's account and are not deleted with yours. Where one of their forked chats still relies on a document you uploaded, ownership of that file transfers to them rather than the file being destroyed underneath a conversation that is no longer yours.
- Short-lived caches that expire on their own — A small number of in-flight response fragments are keyed only by message, with nothing in them tying them to an account, so they cannot be targeted by a purge. They expire automatically, typically within 24 hours.
- Operational logs and backups — Error reports, server and load-balancer logs, and database backups may still contain records of your activity until they age out under each system's own retention schedule. They are not used to reconstruct your account, and are overwritten or expired in the ordinary course.
- Anonymised and aggregated data — Statistics that no longer identify you — counts and usage totals with no link back to your account — may be retained.
- Records the law requires us to keep — Where a legal, tax, accounting, security or fraud-prevention obligation requires us to retain specific information, we keep only what that obligation covers, for only as long as it applies.
Retention periods
- Your account and its data — Deletion starts immediately. Your account is locked the moment you confirm, and no further sign-in is possible. The purge normally finishes within seconds; a very large account continues in the background and completes shortly afterwards.
- If a step fails — Your account stays locked and the deletion is retried automatically, backing off over roughly half a day. It is never left half-finished and silently forgotten — if it still cannot complete, it is escalated to our team.
- Caches — Cleared during the purge; any residual fragments expire within 24 hours.
- Logs and backups — Expire under each system's own retention schedule, after which they are overwritten or deleted.
- Deletion audit record — Retained indefinitely, unless a shorter period is later configured or required by law.
What happens after you confirm
Your account is locked immediately, before anything is deleted. From that moment no one can sign in to it, on any device, and no new data can be added to it.
Deletion then runs across our databases, file storage, search indexes and caches, and finally removes the sign-in account itself. You are signed out and shown a confirmation. In the ordinary case this all completes in seconds; a very large account finishes in the background shortly afterwards, and you do not need to wait or do anything further.
There is no grace period and no recovery window. Signing up again later with the same email address creates a new, empty account — it does not restore anything.
If you use Luminary without an account
Luminary can be used as a guest, without signing up. A guest is a temporary session tied to your device rather than an account, holds no email address or name, and expires on its own. There is nothing to delete here — clearing the app's data on your device, or your browser data on the web, removes the guest session.
Need help?
If the deletion does not work, if you cannot sign in, or if you want written confirmation that your data has been removed, email support@useluminary.ai. Please write from the email address on the account so we can verify the request, or visit our support page.
