Founder
Luminary was founded by Aditya Kaul, an entrepreneur and product builder.
The idea for Luminary grew out of a broader interest in how people engage with information, follow their curiosity, and make sense of the world. While at UC San Diego, Aditya spent significant time exploring philosophy, consciousness, technology, and fundamental questions about life, people, and the world.
While using AI chatbots himself, Aditya repeatedly encountered friction in the process of trying to understand and explore things deeply. Finding information had become remarkably easy, but following an idea often meant moving between AI chats, search engines, websites, videos, documents, and other disconnected sources. Getting clarity could mean manually extracting what mattered from long responses, while the design of existing information products seemed to leave significant room for more intuitive, creative, and thoughtfully crafted ways to interact with information.
Rather than building another search engine, chatbot, or education product, Aditya began developing Luminary around a different idea. He deliberately rejected the traditional EdTech framing, which he saw as too often centered on classrooms, courses, assignments, and predetermined learning paths rather than the way curiosity naturally unfolds. The aim was something broader: an environment where people could search for information, interact with what they found, explore concepts and connections, and continue deeper without constantly switching tools.
That idea became Luminary and what the company calls an Exploration and Understanding Engine, a product built around making information not only easier to find, but easier to explore and understand.
